:: Written Between The Lines of Vanity :: Chapter One of Two :: "It Can't Rain All The Time" ::
"People once believed, that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens, that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes the crow could bring that soul back to put the wrong things right..."
3:38 AM.
[The scene opens in a dark room. A few candles illuminate the darkness-and we see one John Pariah laying with his arms in a crucifix. He is wearing a pair of black pants. Candles encircle him and blood is dripping from his wrists. After a few moments he sits up. He opens his eyes as a large thunder-clap is heard. The camera pans to a large window directly infront of Pariah. Rain is pouring now.]
"It can't rain all the time....."
[Pariah gets up and steps toward the window...]
..static...
[The scene cuts to black and white. We see a happy John, and a happy Lillith sitting together infront of the window, watching the rain and lightning.]
Lillith: Is it going to be like this every night?
John: It can't rain all the time...but yes....it will be like this, every night. You and me.
...static...
[The scene cuts back to reality. Pariah screams in rage and grabs a nearby metal folding chair that is laying on the floor. He throws it out the window-shattering the glass in the process.]
"heartbreak and solace...."
...static...
[The scene cuts to black and white once more. We see John and Karen walking around a playground. Lilltih is wearing a pair of jeans and a white tanktop-while John is clad with a pair of jeans and a black J-Dogg SOH T-Shirt. The two stop by the swings and sit down]
August 10th 2001
Saureman's Park
Crown Point, IN
Eyeshot from the Lake County Fairgrounds-on the night of their annual fireworks display
9:35 PM
John: Do you remember our first date?
Lillith: Yeah, we went to dinner-then for a walk, and ended up-right over there on the big blue jungle gym!
[Karen gets up off the swing and runs to the jungle gym.]
Lillith: Come on!
[He chuckles as he gets up and heads over to her-as she starts climbing. The couple takes a new seat on the top level-as they gaze into the full moon above]
Lillith: Can I ask you something?
[He pauses-as the first set of Fireworks shoot up from the Fairgrounds.[
John: Lillith, Uh, I don't know how to say this-so I just will. Will you marry me?
[He hands her a box-with a ring in it. She smiles as a tear flows from her eye]
Karen: YES!
[The two kiss as the fireworks continue.]
....static....
[We return as Pariah walks over to the window and gazes down. Lakefront property. He see's the water below him-the waves rustling in the storm.]
" Abashed the Devil stood and felt how awful Goodness is.....Felt the pain of happiness, and the pain of faith in a false messiah.....I believe there is a place where the restless souls wander. Burdened by the weight of their own sadness, they cannot enter heaven.... And so they wait, trapped between our world and the next, endlessly searching for a way to rid themselves of their pain- in the hope that somehow, someday they will be reunited with the ones they love. Love is dead to me....and now I begin my quest for alleviation...."
[Pariah looks down again, turns around and puts his arms out in a crucifix-before tilting his head back]
"Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" He screams. "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" He leans backwards and plummets 3 stories into the lake below. The camera cuts to the lake, where the water calms after Pariah's impact. Silence. Is he alive? Is he dead?. Silence. Without warning, Pariah surfaces-gasping for air. He makes his way onto the beach and collapses on the sand. He begins to laugh maniacally between breaths. After several minutes he gets to his feet. A police officer crosses his path.
"Don't move! You took a nasty fall!" The cop says.
"I thought police said freeze?" Pariah responds in kind.
"Well, I am the police-and I say don't move! You should be dead! Just sit your ass down and don't move....."
"Well..I say I'm dead....and I move...."
[Pariah takes the gun away from the shocked cop-and throws it in the water. He then reaches into the cops coat pocket and pulls out a pack of Newports and a Lighter. He takes one out and lights it. He takes a drag.]
"You know, you shouldn't smoke these things...they'll kill ya."
[He puts the cigarette in the cops mouth and walks away. The cop remains motionless-either scared or confused. Probably both. Fade to black.

5:26 AM. Sunrise.
[The scene returns to a playground. It's sunrise. Silent. No children, no parents. Just quiet serenity. The camera pans to Pariah who is sitting on a swing-staring at the ground. He is wearing a pair of black shorts, black shoes, a white wifebeater, and he has his Hybrid Title around his waist.]
"You know-I've dwelled on my past many times. Dwelled on my success in PWX, in WOC, in SOH. But some people take their past to new extremes. Some people turn their past into a vendetta. Jeff X would be one of those people. You see-Jeff X was fired from WEW for reasons unknown. Jeff X has decided to dwell in his fate-and continue to harp on how he shouldn't of been fired. Me? While I never competed in WEW-I watched their shows whenever I had a chance-which quite honestly-wasn't often. Unlike Jeff-I have moved on, and moved past my demons-to better things in my life. Jeff X. In just under a week-we will face off in the center of the ring for the very first time-at least in singles action. You see, I know you're bitter about WEW. But look at it this way-I turned down a contract from WEW. I turned down their second rate bushleague company-because I was on the path to bigger and better things. Jeff-your mind is clouded with delusions of grandeur-your mind is off in other worlds. Your mind is focused on the other fruits of labor. Not our match.."
[He pauses and looks into the camera]
"Ya know, my father would tell me that, every man's got a devil, and you can't rest until you find him...well Jeff X..you've found him. That "Hand of God" last week-has unlocked a demon. I've been an Angel, and now it's time to be a Devil. You've broken deep into my minds own inner sanctum-and it will be you who pays the consequence! You call yourself the Rock Solid Redneck. Some sort of sourthern messiah. Jeff X-you have been convicted of the most deadly sin of all. Vanity. You claim to be a Messiah? Well Jeff-Messiah's are usually martyr'd for their beliefs-and you're part right there. You will be a Martyr. You will be the sacrificial lamb on the road to fate. Your destiny is secure. Uprising will be your waterloo-the beginning of the end. Sunday will be your undoing. Jeff X-you've found my inner devil...care to come out and play?"
[He pauses again and looks into the sky]
"Do you think this is your mountain? Do you think this tournament is yours for the taking. Is it? Is this your time to shine? You're the king of the hill? Jeff Jarrett called..he wants his shtick back! You've crushed two nobody pieces of trash over the past 2 weeks-while I've fought tooth and naiul for everything I've achieved. Sunday Night-you will know what its like to feel pain. To feel fear. To feel alone, cold, and desperate. You want to be a champion again? You want a chance to become the king of the world? How about stepping into the ring with a real king. The King....of Wrestling. Your fate, young Jeff is signed, is sealed, and delievered..."
[He pauses once more-this time standing up.]
"Messiah? You want to be a Messiah? Do you even know who you are? Do you even know where you came from? Your history, your lineage, your ancestry? Do you know a single thing about our kind Jeff? I didn't think so. Where did we come from Jeff X? Some low brow promotion like WEW. Some cheap excuse for an Inter-fed like Projekt Xero. How did we get here? How did you get here Mike? Big bang? Primordial ooze? Divine hand of a benevolent creator? All posibilities, although recent events have given me doubts...about the benevolent creator....where do you think the human mind lies? Do we really have a soul? Are we really human? Are we all actors in a giant soap opera called Earth. Created so the God's could get a kick out of our misery? Are we just mindless robots? Ghosts. Are we man? Are we machine even? Do we even really exist? What type of messiah would have these answers? A Real one. You don't have these answers. You are still a mere child-and you will be the final casualty in the War of Seven. You have nothing. Messiah? Go back to the playground and play 'King of the Hill' with the 'boys' again. You call yourself MY Messiah? Is the mountain really yours? Or has your pathetic ego gotten the best of you?"
[He pauses once again, and looks to his left. He see's a blue jungle-gym type contraption. He smirks and climbs up it-sitting ontop of the metal bars-looking into the skyline]
"Is this your mountain Jeff? Cozy. It's time there was a revolt. It's time there was a change. We met once Jeff-over a year ago at PX: Rejekted. We met in a 3 Team Ladder match for the PX Tag Team Titles. Yeah-you beat me. But I wasn't pinned. My career didn't end. I wasn't black balled from existence. No Jeff-I went on to win the WOC Superior Title. The PWX Hybrid Title. The HOW LSD Title. I went on to be the undispited King of Wrestling. You? You wallowed in self depreciation-and stayed on the sinking ship that was WEW-clinging to the bridge like a lost and scared child. Pathetic. You see-there's a Revolution taking shape Jeff, and you're the bane of the revolution-you are the Antithesis of what I stand for. You thought your heart was broken-beaten-bound and gagged when WEW kicked your ass out the door? Hah. It's time you felt pain. It's time you felt sorrow! It's time I crucified the Redneck Messiah! It's time for a revolution. It's time for you to fear again. It's time for you to wake up-and stop living in a childs world. Grow out of the Super Girl briefs and wake up. The day is coming...and now The Rock Solid Redneck will bow down before the King..."
[He stops-and gazes into the distance. A murder of crows fly into the picture.]
"One crow, sorrow..."
[The first crow lands on the top bar of the nearby swingset]
"Two crows, joy."
[Another lands next to it-and caws.]
"Three crows for a girl, four crows for a boy."
[The third and fourth crows land side by side. Cawing]
"Five crows for silver....."
[Another lands in silence]
"...six crows for gold"
[Another lands]
"Seven crows for...."
[The last bird lands. In it's mouth-a rose]
"...a secret that's never been told....this is your secret. I've been to heaven and hell. I've seen night and day. Sorrow and Happiness. Pain and Joy. I've been atop of the mountain-at the peak..and I've been wallowing at the summit. Death holds us all together in constant fear-but I've escaped that fear...People once believed, that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead.....that last crow-holds the key to salvation. A wilted rose. The precursor to Death. People once believed also-that when a Crow took someones soul to the land of the dead....it left a rose-to show the persons loved ones that he or she was in a better place now. Humans by nature fear death-and yet..do nothing to make sure they go where they want to after they die. Simply because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustable well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even concieve of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.....Jeff X...Saturday Night will be your last full-moon. Sunday Morning-your last Sunrise. Victims Mike....
[The camera pans as Pariah climbs down and looks into the camera.]
"Victims...Aren't We All?"
[He puts his arms in a crucifix as the 7th Crow takes off and drops the rose onto the ground. The camera focus's hard on that as the screen fades to black]
